We are all enjoying our Summer playing a great deal of Squash and Tennis both social and competitive.
Tennis finals day last weekend went ahead in spite of the heavy rain and this week has seen eight of our Performance juniors playing in Madrid.
Tennis and Squash junior camps are fully under way and we are shortly holding the LTA 3 annual Tennis Open. We have also once again been asked to host the Herts Squash Annual Tournament.
I hope you have all seen our refurbished club house and our enjoying its new feel as well a vastly improved office.
I hope Squash players are enjoying the improved lighting.
Our new IT system is almost fully operational, bar DD issues that have almost ironed out with Barclays, and I hope you are finding the new booking system very user friendly.
We are now holding regular social events. There will be a music evening in the Autumn and a Christmas party. Our new barbecue has been used twice!
Your Tennis and Squash chairman , Mike and Kyri will update you shortly on all of their news
So where are we on future plans:
We have quotations for the renewal of Tennis courts 7-9. Artificial Clay, Porous Acrylic or a temporary Tarmac surface .
We planned to carry out this work in September but now plan the works for March 2018.
We have received a very generous donation from John Apthorp’s charitable foundation to help finance this work.
We currently have a planning application in for floodlights for courts 7-9. The power requirements of this new lighting mean we will need to upgrade courts 1-3 to lower consumption LED lighting.
In addition we have applied for a substantial grant from Sports England.
These monies can be used towards the above improvements and in addition a multi court surface/mini court area.
We are currently looking to improve the quality of our driveway.
All of these works will need to be agreed at an EGM prior to any start date.
I continue to reach out to the council and our neighbours to achieve additional access to our club in the fullness of time.
Thank you to our committee and volunteers in helping achieve some of these improvements.
I know I have said this before but I must remind you that to improve and maintain our club , we do need all of your help. Unfortunately it is not as simple as just paying your subscriptions.
Inevitably if members do not step forward to help with the on going club responsibilities the committee has , we will have to become a fully managed club.
We will continue to try and increase our income to enable the exciting projects and improvement of the club facilities we all desire while maintaining financial stability and the long term future of the club.
I would be happy to discuss any of the above, so please reach out to me.
Tennis court surfaces / cost being a main area for input.
