DECEMBER NEWSLETTER

A very warm welcome to the latest edition of RLTSC News – your regular members’ round-up of all the latest tennis, squash and social news.

SQUASH UPDATE

Congratulations to Sohaim Tabassum (pictured with Squash chair Mark Roycroft), who won the Handicap tournament, edging to victory in a very close final 11-10.

TRAINING SESSIONS
* Junior taster sessions take place every Thursday from 5pm-6pm until December 19. Sign up on Mycourts to secure your free place.
* Sunday Adult group sessions are being fully booked each week. They will continue to run from 11.30am-1pm every week. All standards are welcome - once assessed you will be allocated the appropriate time for training as per your level. Book early to avoid disappointment. Contact Lee on 07772140121 to book your place.

SOCIALS
* Monday night social squash continues to be fully booked every week.
* Racketball is in high demand. The group sessions are running every Tuesday at 9.45am and 6.45pm - all levels are welcome.
* Once a month, the usual Friday Social mix will be replaced with the triple threat event. The first of these events was held on October 18 and proved to be great fun for all who attended. We are looking forward to seeing more members attend at the next event.
* We are in the process of arranging a Monday morning pickleball session and more information on this will follow shortly - watch this space!

TEAM SQUASH
All of our teams are performing strongly in their respective league divisions.
* 1s H 2nd
* 1s M 2nd
* 2s H 1st
* 2s M 5th
* 3s H 1st
* Ladies team currently lies in fourth position

EVENTS
* Well done to our latest speed squash event winners (red team - pictured above) which took place on November 18.
* Our monthly 3s event is going live tonight and the winner will be shared in the next newsletter. All members and levels are welcome.
* Looking ahead to the festive season, we will be having a special December Xmas tournament. More details on this will be emailed shortly - watch this space!

THE PARTY COACH - KIDS PARTIES NEW TO RLTSC

Head squash coach Lee Rossiter continues to run kids' parties at the club and offers a range of events from sports, disco/DJ and gaming parties. Please contact Lee directly on 07772140121 to discuss your requirements.

TENNIS UPDATE

SATURDAY 14th DECEMBER 2PM – TENNIS CHRISTMAS SOCIAL

Let’s get in the festive spirit and make the Tennis Social on Saturday, 14th December 2-4pm very much Christmas themed. Wear your Santa hat, Christmas jumper, whatever and have two sociable hours of tennis. There will be mulled wine and mince pies provided by the club.

All standards are very welcome at our coach-led club Tennis Socials, so please come along.

TENNIS SCHOOL AND ADULT GROUPS OVER THE CHRISTMAS PERIOD

Tennis school and coach-led socials finish for the year after the coach-led Adult social on the December 14.

Coach-led Adult socials will restart on Wednesday 8th January 7pm-9pm and Saturday 11th January 2pm-4pm, and the full Tennis School and Adult Group programme will restart from Monday 13th January 2025.

WE NEED YOU!

We are looking for someone to step up as the replacement captain for Men's Hot Rackets Team 2025. This team is in the Men's Hertfordshire Hot Rackets league Division 3A. Matches are played at weekends and teams made up of four players. There are approximately six matches played over early spring/summer 2025. Main responsibilities for the role include: liaising with the club coaches and office to identify suitable-level players and confirm your team for each match; liaising with the club office to book the courts; obtaining the balls from the club office; completing the scorecard for each match and submitting the results on the league portal in the required timeframe; arranging post-match refreshments with your team.

Necessary skills required: good communication and organisational skills; friendly team player.

You will be fully supported in this role so please do not be afraid to offer your time! There are many captains of other teams and a super-friendly team tennis co-ordinator whom you can reach out to. There is also a RLTSC team tennis captains' meeting before the start of each season, where you get to meet the other RLTSC captains, find out everything you need to know and also have a drink on us!

If you'd like to be the next Hot Rackets men's captain please let Danine or Chris know.

TENNIS COURT RESURFACING

As part of the Tennis Court resurfacing programme approved at the EGM on January 17, 2024, it was agreed that we would be resurfacing tennis courts 1-6 during 2025/2026. It is looking very likely that we will be resurfacing all six courts in the early part of 2025. This means that tennis courts 1 to 6 will have limited availability in February/early March. We are finalising options and logistics with our preferred contractor. We will of course endeavour to minimise disruption to members but this is necessary work for the playing surface, bounce and drainage. Please look out for future comms.

SOCIAL UPDATE

SAVE THE DATE - ANNUAL FESTIVE PARTY REMINDER SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21

We shall be having our annual festive party on Saturday, 21 December, from 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome and tickets can be selected in the link sent by separate email.

This year we will be hosted by our resident DJ Lee Rossiter, who will be able to spin any tune to encourage you to the dancefloor. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
