YOUR OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
A very warm welcome to the latest edition of RLTSC News – your regular members’ round-up of all the latest tennis, squash and social news.
TENNIS UPDATE:
Tennis Chair and Tennis Committee update
The recent AGM saw the retirement of Alison Argyle as Tennis Chair and the election in her stead of Laurence Levy. Please join us in thanking and congratulating Alison for her dedication and countless excellent contributions to the Club in her role as Tennis Chair - they are hugely appreciated.
Going forward, please feel welcome, indeed encouraged, to contact Laurence (in person or by email at laurence@levyfamily.co.uk) with any comments, thoughts, suggestions or complaints you may have regarding any aspect of tennis at the Club. Please also feel free to contact any other member of the Tennis Committee.
With a couple of recent changes, the Tennis Committee now comprises the following:
Laurence Levy (Chair), Chris Martin (Head Coach), Alison Argyle, Ben Cohen, Mel Flower-Ellis, Danine Irwin, Steven Needlestone, Sean O’Sullivan and Jo Rickless.
SOCIAL MEDIA – VOLUNTEER REQUIRED
We are looking for a volunteer to help the Tennis section promote itself on social media. If you can help, or have a friend or family member interested, please let the office know.
JUNIORS
Tennis school restarts on November 3. There’s still time to reserve your slot for the rest of the term if you want to get your regular weekly tennis fix!
A huge well done to all of our juniors who have been competing in LTA competitions over the past few weeks. Please remember to send any achievements of tournaments through to Chris for him to post on our social media pages to celebrate their success.
ADULTS
Our Adult groups are still going strong each week, and the ever-unpredictable weather is not putting anyone off! Get yourself booked on to one of our sessions we have running throughout the week.
Due to a lack of numbers over the last few months, we will be putting the team training session on hold for now, with a view to seeing if another day or time will be more suitable for people to attend.
DINA’S SUCCESS STORY CONTINUES, STATESIDE
A huge well done to Dina, who has been out in America in her first year of Junior college. She managed to win the regionals competition in Singles and Doubles, earning her the invitation to play in the National finals, where she once again showed her strength and talent, finishing in third. A fantastic achievement for her after such a short time out there.
That success for her didn’t go unnoticed, as she was then awarded a wildcard to her first WTA qualifying event. Unfortunately, the 20-hour round trip she had to endure for the national finals to then have to play a WTA event the next day was a stretch too far for her, as she lost her match, but still a phenomenal achievement nonetheless.
TEAM TENNIS
SUMMER LEAGUE MATCHES:
Thanks to all captains across all leagues for managing their teams through Summer 2025 and into Winter 25/26. Teams cannot be entered into leagues without a captain. Captains give up much of their time to enable all of you to play matches. Thank you!
Now it’s your turn!
Thanks to Ben Cohen, who has captained the Men’s 1 team in the 2025 Herts League and now stood down.
In order for this team to remain in the league, we are seeking a new captain to lead the Men’s 1 team through the 2026 Herts League.
After this 2025 season, we are presently standing at the bottom of Division 2, Group 1 - possible demotion ahead for 2026.
If you are interested in captaining - and/or indeed join this high-level team, please contact Ben Cohen or Laurence Levy to discuss.
INTERNAL MIXED LEAGUE
Thanks to Danine for setting up and running this fun internal league over the past few years. Danine has now stepped down and we are seeking a new coordinator to run this. This league will close without a coordinator. Please reach out to Laurence Levy if you are interested.

SOCIAL UPDATE:
We have a busy November lined up to fill those dark and Autumnal evenings.
Friday, November 7 – ‘Bingo Night’
We have planned our first Bingo evening at Radlett, hosted by our very own Mr Willie Kawczynski. It should be a really fun evening, reminiscent of your holiday getaways, with prizes to be won and plenty of time to socialise between and enjoy one of our very beverages.
The evening is FREE, aside from the books, which shall be available to purchase on the night.
Would be great to see many of the familiar faces and new.
Friday, November 28 – Cheese and Wine Night
This is a returning favourite, where a selection of reds, whites, and rose wines shall be served, with some background information. We shall choose some fantastic cheese accompaniment and if time/budget permits, shall have some prosecco and port thrown in!
The details of local taxi companies shall be available upon request!
Look forward to seeing you all soon, having something to replace those cold and wet evenings when tennis becomes for the hardy only.
TRIBUTE TO EILEEN DAY
We are sad to announce the passing of Eileen Day (1931-2025). Eileen played tennis at Radlett for many decades, supporting and captaining teams and playing socially. She was a member of the Ladies A team in which won the Watford and District League and, notably, played in the team which won the Over-50’s Herts League! In her later years, she was awarded lifetime membership.
