TENNIS UPDATE

EXTERNAL EVENTS – REGIONAL FAST FOUR AND RADLETT GRADE 3 OPEN

A reminder to members that we have two LTA events running at the club over the next few months that will feature a very high standard of tennis:

- A Regional Fast Four event will be held over the weekend of May 18/19; this tournament will take four courts from 11am-7pm on both days.

Please be aware that there will be a slight change to court bookings for Adult socials – Saturday, May 18 – 2pm-4pm will be on courts 6,7,8 and 9. Sunday, May 19 – courts 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be booked from 9am-11am only. Thanks for your understanding.

- We will also be hosting The Radlett Open Grade 3, from August 4-10 inclusive. During this period, tennis courts 1-9 will be used for the tournament but courts 10 and 11 will be available to members and coaches.

These tournaments help to promote the club, both locally and further afield.

We would encourage members to come down to watch the tennis, and please volunteer to help where/when you can.

WINTER LEAGUE REVIEW

The Men’s over-55s team had a decent winter season in Division 1A of the Herts Senior Tennis League. Radlett won four out of five matches, finishing in third position overall, comfortably mid-table. Happily, there were few matches that needed to be rearranged, despite the weather conditions. Many thanks to the players - Paul Murphy, Nigel Booth, Andy Willimott, Jon Harris, Graham Biggs, Robert Franks, Alan Marcus, and Bob Huffam, all of whom are proud to own their age!” Thanks to Bob for organising the Men’s Vets this last winter! If anyone is interested to playing next winter, please contact Bob Huffam – rghuffman@gmail.com.

CAPTAIN'S REPORTS:

From Marion - captain of the Herts Winter League Ladies O60s:

“The Ladies 60+ Herts team did very well this season, finishing top of Division 2B. They will be promoted to Division 1, the top division next season.” Well done ladies!

From Aileen - captain of the Herts Winter League Ladies O50s A team:

“Some tough matches in Division One but enjoyable tennis and thanks to all players.”

From Alison, captain of the Herts Winter League Ladies O50s B team:

“The Ladies O50B had a brilliant season last autumn/winter, comfortably winning their league, undefeated. They will be promoted to Division 2. Many thanks to the squad of Alison, Danine, Sheila, Lorraine, Louise, Georgina, Marion, Di, Molly and Zena.”

From Laura, captain of the Herts Winter Ladies O40s A team:

“The Ladies O40A team had an eventful season, with 1 win, 2 draws and 2 losses. The level of play was exceptional, and I witnessed some incredible tennis. I want to thank my amazing team - Di, Molly, Marion, Jet, Alison, Shelia, Jenny, Emily, Julie, Charlotte and Danine - for their support. We’re looking forward to an even better season ahead!” The team will remain in Division 3.

From Sheila, captain of the Herts Winter Ladies O40s B team:

“We finished top of Division 3B meaning a promotion to Division 2 for next season. Another great season for the over-40’s B team finishing top of the table. A brilliant achievement! A big thank you to everyone who played with the ever-changing dates due the weather. And we’re looking forward to next season.”

From Lorraine captain of our Batchwood League Ladies team:

“In previous years, our winter Batchwood matches have always been of great success to us, usually only coming second to Harpenden 1. However, all the opposing teams were very strong this year and we only won one match, against Harpenden 2. We put up a brave fight with the other five matches though.”

Looking ahead to the next Winter League, which starts in September, Lorraine added: “Batchwood charges each member of the team a rather expensive fee which has increased twice just this last season, so I think it might put off some players joining us. I hope not though. A big thank you to all those who played for our team - onwards and upwards!”
