A very warm welcome to the latest edition of RLTSC News – your regular members’ round-up of all the latest tennis, squash and social news.

TENNIS UPDATE:

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR RED-HOT ROCCO AT EUROPEAN MACCABI YOUTH GAMES

Congratulations to young Rocco Yanover for winning two gold medals at the recent European Maccabi Youth Games.

Rocco (pictured above) was in top form throughout the tournament, playing some scintillating tennis to win the Boys’ Singles and Boys’ Doubles competitions at Habs.

TENNIS PROGRAMME RESTARTS

We're almost at the end of the summer holidays and we're pleased to say the Tennis Programme of Adult and Junior group sessions restarts on Monday, 9th September.

Our ever-popular Junior programme provides for a range of ages and standards - these courses can be booked via Clubspark: https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/RadlettLawnTennisandSquashClub/Coaching

A reminder that for Adults we have: Rusty Rackets (Monday evenings), Beginners course (Tuesday mornings), Intermediate drills (Tuesday evenings), O60s (Wednesday mornings), Coffee morning (Thursday mornings), Cardio (Thursday evenings and Friday mornings) and, of course, Adult Socials on Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Other than Thursday Coffee Morning, Saturday and Sunday socials which are ‘turn up and play,’ you'll find these groups under Events on MyCourts, so please sign up.

CLUB TOURNAMENT TENNIS FINALS

These will be held the morning of Saturday 7th September, starting at 10am - with a BBQ and bar open from 12.30pm. Please come along to support.

JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRESS REPORT

Shakil Hood was runner-up at the U8 County Championships last week.

Shakil, Oliver and Ben all won matches in the U9 tournament at the Hertfordshire Championships.

SQUASH UPDATE:

JILLIAN SECURES TOP SIX FINISH AT WORLD MASTERS

Congratulations to Jillian Lilico for her sixth-place finish in the 55+ competition at the WSF World Masters in Amsterdam.

Representing Radlett, Jillian beat Kylee Hammett of Australia, battling back from two games down to win a thriller 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-2, 11-6 in round one.

She beat another Australian in round two, defeating Fiona Whooley 7-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10 in a thrilling match.

Her run in the main tournament ended at the quarter-final stage as she was defeated 1-11, 4-11, 5-11 against eventual winner Lauren Wagner from Canada.

Later, in the play-off to decide fifth to eighth place, Jillian beat fellow Brit Karen Webb 11-4, 11-7, 11-2 in the semi-finals before going down in three sets against Kelsey Souchereau of Canada in the final placing match – 4-11, 5-11, 10-12.

Jillian reflected: “I feel I could’ve made the top five but can’t complain!”

Squash News in brief

- The two show courts will be repaired in early September.

JUNIOR SQUASH

Junior Squash Camps were held on July 22-24 and August 13-15, attracting 28 juniors with 10 new to squash. Thanks go to Jago Nardelli for his coaching as well as Hugh P, Ollie B and Oliver A who helped.

The regular Sunday sessions resume in September, all ages from 6-19 are welcome with complete beginners through to county players included. Timings are 2.30pm-3.30pm for U12s, with seniors from 3.30-5pm
