AUGUST NEWSLETTER

A very warm welcome to the latest edition of RLTSC News – your regular members’ round-up of all the latest tennis, squash and social news.

TENNIS UPDATE:

IMPORTANT NOTICE AND CALL TO ACTION:

We require significant support and members to step up to ensure the future of
RLTSC's tennis teams continues to thrive.

Many members have enjoyed competitive match tennis this season across the Men’s, Ladies and Mixed sections, and in three leagues - Hot Rackets, Herts League and Watford and District.

Entry to these leagues and administration of all these teams is overseen by the club’s team organiser, volunteer and member, Danine who alongside with the club’s paid administrator, Jet, ensures entries are made and captains have all the information, balls and court bookings that they need to see them through the season.

We are proud of our teams and, in particular, our captains, across all leagues and sections; they have been exceptionally well-organised and led brilliantly. Many captains have led teams season after season without any new players taking over.

It's worth remembering that captains give up their time, they too, are member volunteers with family and work commitments.

Thanks this summer season go to: Aileen Barber, Ben Cohen, David Gilbert, Julie Binns, Fizz Pick, Louise Jackman, Brian Klitzner, Adam Gamsa, Richard Deem, Chris Martin, Danny Caro, Jenny Davis, Jet Ross, Bex Hinton, Danine Irwin and Chris Parramore.

As well, a thank you mention to all those members who volunteer their time for captaining the winter teams.

Now, this is where we need you to really think hard. You love your tennis, right? And would miss playing matches if the teams weren’t entered, right? Well, this season some captains have decided to step down, and this is where you need to pay attention!

If there is no captain, we CANNOT enter a team.

If you love your match tennis and currently play in a team or want to, you need to step up and volunteer to be a captain.

We know you work - so do we! We know you have family commitments - so do we! We know you love tennis - so do we!

We are particularly looking to recruit:
Men’s Herts League captain
Ladies Herts League captain
Ladies A team Watford and District

Please reach out to Jet or Danine to put your name down. All guidance will be provided.

FINAL CALL FOR HELPERS FOR GRADE 3 TOURNAMENT

We are still looking for helpers both in the kitchen and on-court supervisors for the Grade 3 tournament we are hosting from August 3-9.

Please update your availability on the printed sheet by the kitchen if you can spare two hours.

The names of all volunteers will be put into a draw to win a free coaching lesson.

SUMMER CAMP

Holiday camps are in full swing and have been very well attended so far. There are still plenty of camp days ahead over the summer holiday period, so please feel free to book on via our club website.

SQUASH UPDATE:

JUNIOR COUNTY REPRESENTATION!

We’re proud to announce that three of our Radlett players — Jacob, Jaxon, and Kian — have been selected for the Herts County Junior squad.

They’ve been attending training sessions with county coaches Lee Rossiter and Gary Nisbit at Nuffield, and competed against Berkshire and Oxfordshire last weekend.

It’s fantastic to see our juniors (pictured below) earning well-deserved recognition at County level. Lee is looking forward to working with them over the summer and helping them prepare for next season.

Well done, boys — keep pushing forward!

VELOCITY – Junior Accelerator Wrap-Up

Our 8-week Junior Accelerator, VELOCITY, has officially wrapped up. A huge thank you to all the kids who put in incredible effort throughout the programme — your hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.

We have a Friendship Cup against players from the Caribbean coming over on Saturday, August 2, so let’s welcome them and show them how we play!

Massive appreciation to the coaching team for their commitment and energy in making it all happen. Enjoy your well-earned break — we’ll see you after summer for the next phase!

Junior Sessions continue every Thursday, 5–6pm. Numbers are growing fast, so book your free spot on MyCourts to avoid missing out. Lee and Harry are excited to keep things going strong.

Sunday Adult Group Sessions are now on pause and will return in late August as we kick-off pre-season training — eyes firmly on multiple promotions this season!

Events for July

We enjoyed a busy July just before we quieten down for the summer. A great way to finish off the month with nothing other than an inter-club team match. Head coach Lee was “thrilled” with the incredible turnout and positive feedback from last week’s fully-booked event. Lee commented: “It sounds like you all had a fantastic time, and I'm excited to announce that, by popular demand, I'll be running this event every other month!”

A huge congratulations to the Red team for their phenomenal performance. They were truly on fire, dominating their semi-final with an 18-6 win and then clinching the final 13-11 against a strong Black team. What a victory for the Red team (pictured above).

Our Player of the Tournament award goes to Harry France! He showed incredible resilience, coming back from match ball down in both of his games to secure two wins. Fantastic effort, Harry! (Though we won't mention his marking…)

A big thanks to Otis for another amazing spreadsheet.

Lee is looking forward to running another similar event soon and will keep you posted on WhatsApp when we shall all return.

Congratulations to the Red team for winning this month’s event.

Adaptive Handicap winner is Ricky Shah (pictured left, alongside head coach Lee). Ricky won a very tough semi-final against a top seed 11-10 and then secured the final 11-8 after starting with -2 handicap. Thanks to all who played this event.

Racketball Returns!

We’re excited to confirm our first Racketball team match in a while, and it’s set for Monday, August 26 against Broxbourne.

Looking forward to seeing our players back on court for what promises to be a great match and a fun occasion for the club.

Let’s make it a strong return!

Socials

* Monday night social squash continues to be fully booked every week.

* Racketball morning sessions shall return in again after the August break along with the other sessions so keep your eyes posted on the WhatsApp groups for updates.

PICKLEBALL UPDATE

Pickleball – Summer Success!

What a fantastic summer of Pickleball at Radlett! We’re taking a short break now, but will be resuming sessions from the week commencing August 25.

We closed out the season on a high, with our team securing a 20–12 win against a strong Woodside side, who’ve been playing and training in the sport for over a year. An amazing result for our first-ever team match — head coach Lee is "incredibly proud of everyone who has committed and trained hard over the past 12 weeks in this brand-new sport at the club".

Rossiter added: "Looking ahead, we’ve already got matches lined up against Harrow and Rickmansworth, so get ready for the next chapter!"

Got questions? Drop Lee a DM or check out my Instagram @rossiter_in2 to follow our pickleball story and other updates.

If you would like any more information on anything or the new squash, Racketball or Pickleball timetable, then contact Lee on 07772140121 and he will be happy to help you. He looks forward to seeing you all return rested and ready to GO!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of RLTSC News and we look forward to bringing you further updates from within and around the Club in another round-up soon
